The 15 day Everest Base Camp trek that I went on with my wife and our friends far exceeded even my wildest expectations. You probably already know the views and the beauty of the Himalayas are well worth it so instead of talking about that, allow me to talk about what made this trip special for us:
To begin with, it was easy, logistically speaking. Everything was taken care of for us: hotel reservation, tea house reservations, flights to and from Lukla, our luggage... Everything.
We also had Lhakpa, our exceptional trekking guide. He was dedicated to making the trek a enjoyable, relaxing, and most importantly, a safe experience. For example, when I unfortunately got giardia on the trek Lhakpa made sure we made it to the next medical clinic as soon as possible. Similarly, when my wife was experiencing altitude sickness, he was quick to get us to the medical clinic to have her checked on. But it's more than that, he also offered to carry our bags when we were struggling, and was always helping us with our things. He is a truly amazing human being.
On top of all that, he also provided insight and details into the culture of the Sherpa people and his experience as a trekking guide. He was a joy to be around and I think all of us will miss him and we hope we can see him again sometime in the near future.
